About Me: Tech, History, and the Joy of Continuous Learning
Hello and welcome to my corner of the internet! I'm a lifelong enthusiast driven by a few core passions: the cutting edge of technology, the rewarding world of self-hosting, the deep narratives of history, and, most importantly, the endless journey of continuous learning.
Tech & Self-Hosting: Taking the Reins
I've always been fascinated by how things work, especially in the digital realm. To me, technology isn't just a tool; it's a playground for creation and a powerful force for autonomy.
This interest naturally led me to the world of self-hosting. I love the process of building, configuring, and maintaining my own digital infrastructure—whether it's running a private media server, hosting a small application, or managing my own cloud alternatives. It's a deep dive into Linux, networking, containerization (hello, Docker!), and all the satisfying puzzle pieces that come with having true ownership over your digital life. You'll find me often tinkering with new hardware or streamlining my homelab setup.
A Historian at Heart
While my hands are often busy with keyboards and server racks, my mind frequently wanders back in time. History offers an incredible perspective on human nature, innovation, and the long arc of progress (and sometimes, regression).
From the architectural wonders of the ancient world to the complex geopolitics of the 20th century, I find the stories of the past endlessly compelling. Studying history teaches us not only where we've been but also how to critically evaluate the world we live in today. It's the perfect counterbalance to the fast-paced nature of tech.
The Fuel: Continuous Learning
The common thread that weaves these interests together is an insatiable appetite for continuous learning.
In the tech world, if you stand still, you fall behind. In history, there's always a new document to read or a different interpretation to consider. I believe that curiosity is our most powerful operating system. I'm constantly picking up new programming languages, exploring new server applications, reading dense historical texts, or watching a documentary on a topic I know nothing about. Every day offers a chance to acquire a new skill or challenge a long-held assumption.
Let's Connect!
This blog is where I share my explorations—be it a deep-dive tutorial on setting up a new self-hosted service, a reflection on a historical event, or musings on the future of technology. I hope you find something here that sparks your own curiosity!
What digital project are you working on right now, or what era of history has captured your attention lately? I'd love to hear about it!
